137 days.
It was 137 days ago that the Red Sox eliminated the Yankees from the ALDS. You remember Game Four, complete with the heartbreaking near-comeback by the Bombers. Fans had 137 days to stew over it. The team had 137 days to improve. Now, 137 days later, it’s time for a do-over.
The Yankees kick off their Grapefruit League schedule with a game at JetBlue Park against the Red Sox. Nestor Cortes, who spent most of the 2018 season pitching for the Triple-A RailRiders, gets the ball. He had a cup of coffee with the Orioles as a Rule 5 pick, but Cortes returned to the Bombers in April. Phillip Diehl and Brady Lail may follow, as both were scheduled to make the trip to Fort Myers.
As for the position players, four big names find themselves in action. Aaron Hicks, Gleyber Torres, Miguel Andujar, and Clint Frazier anchor the lineup. A stud center fielder, two Rookie of the Year finalists, and former top prospect? That’s not bad for the first spring training game!
Sure feels good to say this:
