Reporting to spring training didn’t stop CC Sabathia from dropping a new episode of the R2C2 podcast. Although separated by approximately 1100 miles, Sabathia and Ryan Ruocco connected and discussed a variety of topics. The southpaw’s retirement, his spring training schedule, and the free agent market freeze took up most of the conversation.
Of particular interest to fans, Ruocco asked Sabathia if he has kept up his communication with Manny Machado. The left-hander previously revealed that he texted with the infielder over the early days of his free agency. That dialogue, however, appears to have closed down. Consider what Sabathia had to say on the matter:
“No, I haven’t talked to him since the last time I guess we did a podcast. You know, it’s just, you don’t want to keep bothering the guy. You know, calling the guy and all that sh*t. I mean, we all know what’s going on; we can see the news and stuff. So you don’t want to keep hounding the guy and things like that. You just kind of let it play out, hopefully he’s a teammate in a couple of weeks and I won’t have to keep texting him.”
For what it’s worth, it doesn’t look like a resolution is coming any time soon.
Talked to someone with knowledge of the ongoing Harper Machado saga. He doesn’t think it will resolve until mid-March.

Elsewhere on the podcast, Sabathia provided some interesting behind-the-scenes details on his own free agency in 2008 — back when he first signed with the Yankees. He also recounted how he picked Andy Pettitte’s brain during the 2009 championship campaign.
Additionally, Sabathia has great tips for how to travel with Krispy Kreme donuts. It’s well worth a listen for that advice alone.
