Around the Empire: Yankees news - 12/18/19

The Gerrit Cole press conference is happening today; How will the Yankees clear room on the 40-man roster?; Do the Bombers have the best rotation in baseball now?

MLB: ALDS-Tampa Bay Rays at Houston Astros Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: It’s Gerrit Cole day! The Yankees will introduce Cole during a press conference scheduled for 11 AM Eastern. We’ll finally get to see him in a Yankees uniform.

NJ.com | Mike Rosenstein: The 40-man roster is currently full, meaning that the Yankees need to clear space to add both Cole and Brett Gardner. Does that mean a trade is in the works? It would sure be nice to see J.A. Happ land somewhere else.

New York Post | Joel Sherman: Now that the Bombers have Cole in the rotation, it’s the best in the league right? Not so fast. There are plenty of question marks remaining around Luis Severino, Domingo German, and that last spot in the rotation.

SB Nation | John Ness: On a personal note, I’m not sure if any of you saw this news break on Monday, but Vox will soon be parting ways with all California-based independent contractors. This is due to a California law going into effect January 1st which restricts said contractors from producing more than 35 pieces of content per year. For context, I posted more than 430 pieces of content on Pinstripe Alley in 2019. Unfortunately, as a California resident, that means that my six years with PSA will be coming to an end in the next few months.
