Yankees Prospects: Estevan Florial, Clarke Schmidt take their next steps

Nick Flammia, voice of the Tampa Tarpons, joins the podcast this week to discuss Yankees High-A

MLB: Spring Training-New York Yankees at Toronto Blue Jays Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

On this week’s episode of A Call Away, we are joined by Nick Flammia. In his eighth season as the voice of the Tampa Tarpons, he got to see a number of top Yankees prospects over the course of a full 140-game season.

To start the conversation, he discusses a year that featured an avalanche of Yankees injuries and the ensuing rehab appearances by Didi Gregorius, Giancarlo Stanton, Troy Tulowitzki, Miguel Andujar, Aaron Hicks, Jordan Montgomery and CC Sabathia. He notes what he saw from those big leaguers as they were working their way back to health and mentoring the young players around them.

The conversation then pivoted to some of the big-name prospects on the Tarpons this year, including Estevan Florial, whose numbers were lackluster in an injury-filled season. Clarke Schmidt, who posted a strong 2019 before being promoted to Double-A Trenton, gets brought up.
