2020 Yankees

No more calling 4 and 5 innings a quality start. To hell with analytics, that insanity has to end. The primary focus of this off season, if not the only focus, has to be starting pitching, and after this punch in the face vs Houston, I want TWO aces who can give us multiple innings, not one, the way George would have reacted to this devastating gut-punch.

  • CC Sabathia
  • JA Happ
  • Brett Gardner
  • Edwin Encarnacion
  • Didi Gregorius
  • Cameron Maybin
  • Greg Bird (Trade)
  • Jacoby Ellsbury (Eat the final year of his contract.)

  • Gerrit Cole
  • Stephen Strasburg

Gerrit Cole
Stephen Strasburg
Luis Severino
James Paxton
Masahiro Tanaka

2B DJ LeMahieu
RF Aaron Judge
SS Gleyber Torres
DH Giancarlo Stanton (No more OF because he's too injury prone.)
CF Aaron Hicks
1B Miguel Andujar (Convert from 3B to 1B.)
C Gary Sanchez
3B Gio Urshela
LF Frazier/Tauchman (R/L Platoon)

Note: We have to go cheap at several positions and bench to sign Cole and Strasburg.

Voit or Ford (One, not both.)
Frazier/Tauchman (R/L Platoon)
Thairo Estrada
Austin Romine

Florial and others can battle for that LF Job in camp as well, but we have to go cheap.

Aroldis Chapman
Zack Britton
Dellin Betances
Chad Green
Tommy Kahnle
Adam Ottavino
Jonathan Loaisiga (SP/long man)

Note: Loaisiga and Jordan Montgomery are both options if a SP gets hurt.

One last thing and this will not be popular. If more salary needs to be cut in order to make room for both Cole and Strasburg, I endorse trading Masa as well. Terrific SP and I love him, and he's certainly not the reason we lost to the Astros, but IMO we need to get younger at SP with guys who can consistently deliver 7+ innings and Masa can no longer do that. So if trading his salary is necessary to make Cole and Strasburg a reality, I would deal Masa and install Loaisiga or Montgomery as the fifth starter.
