Yankees fans have spent the entire offseason waiting for Sonny Gray to be moved, and while rumors have come and gone, he’s managed to stick around well into January. After agreeing to a deal with Adam Ottavino earlier today, now it sounds like the Bombers may find Gray a new home soon.

According to Jon Heyman, the Yankees are close to putting together a trade. That certainly isn’t the first time we’ve heard that this offseason. Interested teams include the Athletics, Brewers, Braves, Mariners, Padres, and Reds. Heyman also noted that the Giants are now in the mix. Their president, Farhan Zaidi, is reportedly a fan of Gray from his days with the A’s.

At one point, it had started to make some sense for the Yankees to keep Gray. That was especially true after the news of CC Sabathia’s heart surgery was revealed and there were concerns that he wouldn’t be ready for spring training. However, Sabathia has been cleared and now is a fine time to cut ties with Gray.

Now that the bullpen is settled, and it doesn’t seem like the Yankees will sign Manny Machado, trading Gray could be their last big move of the offseason.
