New York Yankees at Seattle Mariners: Masahiro Tanaka vs. James Paxton

It’s Tanaka Time in Seattle!

MLB: New York Yankees at Miami Marlins Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

The West Coast trip rolls on. The Yankees are visiting a Mariners team that, in some ways, understands what the Bombers are going through. Both squads have been frustrated by their divisions, as Marc Normandin explains. If that’s not interesting enough, the Yankees can help their Wild Card cause by burying the M’s — one less thing to worry about down the stretch.

Masahiro Tanaka gets the ball for the Yankees. The 29-year-old owns a 3.83 ERA (4.23 FIP) over 134 innings in 2018. Since returning from the disabled list in mid-July, however, he’s pitched to a 2.93 ERA with a 3.38 FIP. Second-half Tanaka is just the best. You can read more about this version of him here.

As for the Mariners, they will turn to James Paxton. The southpaw is having a largely impressive, pitching to a 3.74 ERA with a 3.16 FIP across 144 innings. He tossed a no-hitter earlier in the year! It’s been a rough go lately — 5.50 ERA (4.10 FIP) over his last four starts — so hopefully the Yankees can capitalize.

First pitch is scheduled for 10:10 PM. You can watch on YES or stream via the FOX Sports GO app. WFAN 660/101.9 FM and WADO 1280 have the radio call. Go Yankees!
