Worst loss ever

I was 9 years old, played baseball for the first time earlier that year. The previous year I became a Yankee fan I guess because they were always on "The Game of the Week" with Dizzy Dean and Peewee Reese; but more likely because of Mickey. The media just wasn't the same back then, not sure they even called it the media.

Most of what I know about the 1960 W.S. I learned after the event but I still have that gut-wrenching feeling that overcame me when I saw Yogi go back to the wall and look up. This was the first time I suffered a broken heart.

Fortunately for me the next year was the most exciting year ever and the Yanks won; and the year after saw Ralph Terry redeem himself with one of the greatest game 7 pitching performances ever, or I might have become a Dodger fan like my Father and Brother (horrors).

Certainly the 2001 loss deserves mention here but our Yankees scored 14 runs that year as opposed to 55 in 1960. Also our defense broke down in 2001 while in 1960 a bad hop and lucky bounce broke our defense. What says it all about the loss in '60 was a picture of Mazeroski hitting the ball showing his eyes closed when he made contact.
