Around the Empire: Yankees news - 8/9/18

Luis Severino does better than previous outings; Giancarlo Stanton hits first grand slam as a Yankee; Mets will start Jacob deGrom over Jason Vargas in make-up game; a moth flew into an umpire’s ear, which yeah, nope

MLB.com | Max Gelman: Luis Severino has been a cause of concern over his last five or six starts. The first inning did not ease that concern at all. The following innings definitely helped. Sevy bounced back and pitched seven innings, earning his 15th win. I’m still not against the Yankees calling Pedro Martinez for help. Until then, I’m just glad Sevy looked like Sevy again.

NorthJersey.com | Pete Caldera: In case you were unaware, Giancarlo Stanton is a New York Yankee. Cool, right? Yesterday, Stanton hit his first grand slam of his pinstriped career. You probably saw this last night. What you might not know is this:

Again, I’m glad he’s on the team and you should be too.

New York Post | Ethan Sears: The Yankees will play their make-up game with the Mets on Monday. The rain almost helped the Yankees avoid facing Mets’ ace Jacob deGrom. Almost. Turns out the Mets are lining it up so that deGrom starts against the Yankees, instead of scheduled starter Jason Vargas. I would also start deGrom over Vargas, in much normal circumstances. But yeah.

Cut4 | Eric Chesterton: A F#$KING MOTH FLEW INTO THE EAR OF AN UMPIRE!! NO REALLY, A G#%#AMN MOTH FLEW INTO AN UMP’S EAR AND THE YANKEES’ TRAINER HAD TO REMOVE IT AND THERE IS NOTHING OKAY WITH THIS AT ALL!
