There’s no better way to shake off an embarrassing weekend series than by turning the page with a blowout win the very next day. The Yankees did just that, beating the White Sox 7-0 last night. It marked their first win for the month of August. While the Boston series was rock bottom for the 2018 Yankees, they need to continue to look forward so they avoid losing any more ground.
After Lance Lynn’s fantastic performance last night, the Yankees are hoping for more of the same tonight as CC Sabathia will take the mound. Sabathia has had a season of streaks – he was rock-solid in April and June, but poor in May and July. The left-hander is 19-6 with a 3.78 ERA lifetime against the South Siders, but just four active White Sox have actually faced him. Let’s see if the southpaw can school the young White Sox tonight.
The White Sox will counter with 24-year-old righty Reynaldo Lopez. A former top prospect, Lopez throws hard but has poor strikeout and walk rates. His stuff has never been the question, but the key for Lopez will be if he has enough command to harness his plus pitches. He is coming in off of a good start against the Kansas City Royals last week, in which he threw seven innings while giving up just two runs.
