Gleyber Torres makes history with last night’s dinger; Aaron Judge still cannot swing a bat; Sir Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez should be back soon; how the Yankees can catch the Red Sox

Cleveland Indians v New York Yankees
Photo by Elsa/Getty Images | Bryan Hoch: Another day, another historic dinger for the Yankees. Gleyber Torres hit yesterday’s historic dong, his 20th of the year. With that home run, it gave the Yankees a pair of rookies with 20+ homers each in a season. Miguel Andujar, the leading candidate for AL Rookie of the Year, has 21 dingers. It’s still August. There’s hopefully a whole month or two of dingers to follows from them.

Newsday | Anthony Rieber: Speaking of dingers, Aaron Judge is still not back and I am still sad. Judge still has yet to hold a bat in his hand. It’s safe to say that if we see Judge again, it will not be until the middle or end of September. That’s probably a best case scenario. I don’t want to talk about the worst case scenario because that is sad.

Newsday | Erik Boland: In some better, happier injury news, if there is such a thing, Didi Gregorius and Gary Sanchez are on the mend. Sir Didi swung a bat on Sunday and he’s looking better and better. Aaron Boone is hopeful he will be back before their west coast trip. As for Gary, he hit a dinger in yesterday’s RailRiders game and Boone is hoping he’ll be back before the week is up. This makes me happy.

New York Post | Dan Martin: The Yankees are going to catch the Red Sox in the standings and win the division. It’s destiny. Well, it was in 1978. The question is, can the 2018 Yankees achieve the seemingly improbable? Yes. How, you may ask? Well you’re just gonna have to read the article. But really, the answer is a little energon and a lot of luck.

Props to whomever gets that reference.
