New York Post | George A. King III: The Yankees officially placed Didi Gregorius on the 10-day disabled list with a left heel contusion yesterday. The move wasn’t a complete shock after Gregorius’ collision on Sunday, but it still stings. The team is hoping it’s a short stint, but will know for sure in the next few days to see how he’s healing. The plan for now is to have Gleyber Torres man shortstop and Neil Walker fill in at second base while Ronald Torreyes can back up both positions.

In other injury news, the Yankees had to scramble quickly as two of their top relievers had issues yesterday:

That explains why Aroldis Chapman had to leave early and why his velocity was so down.

Hopefully they can at least catch a break with David Robertson. It’d be a tough pill to swallow if they lose both Chapman and D-Rob.

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: In better injury news, CC Sabathia is set to officially come off the disabled list this Friday and start against the Orioles. Sabathia said he could’ve pitched through the discomfort but decided to speak up and rest his knee for the playoff push. In other news, Gary Sanchez will begin a rehab assignment in the Gulf Coast League tomorrow before moving to Triple-A for about a week of rehab. Aaron Judge is said to be feeling better but has yet to swing, and Clint Frazier has resumed baseball activities.

There are also non-injury reinforcements on the way. On Tuesday, the Yankees removed Justus Sheffield from the Triple-A rotation. Early speculation was that they were doing this so he could potentially start one of the doubleheader games on Saturday. Turns out the Yankees have other ideas:

This actually seems like a good idea. Let Sheffield get used to working out of the bullpen and not on a set routine.

NorthJersey.com: Tyler Austin’s dad made waves the other day after tweets of him insulting Greg Bird came to light. Chris Austin is apparently bitter because the Yankees traded his son to the AusTwins. Austin quickly came out and said that his dad’s comments were “unacceptable” and “embarrassing.” Austin told his dad to delete the tweets immediately, which he has, and said he’ll be calling Bird to apologize personally.
