The Yankees find themselves in a painfully familiar spot in today’s matinee as they look to fend off a series defeat at the hands of the Rays, who the Yanks just can’t seem to shake this season. Last night’s defeat left the Bombers just 7-7 in their 14 games against the Rays in 2018.
Masahiro Tanaka gets the ball for the Yanks, and is coming off a start where he allowed three home runs against the Rangers. Tanaka had been great prior to his last outing since his return from the DL, and he’ll look to get back on track this afternoon. The Rays counter with Blake Snell, recently returned from his own DL stint after recovering from shoulder fatigue. The lefty fired five hitless innings in his last outing against the Blue Jays, but was pulled due to concerns about his workload. We’ll see what kind of pitch count he has today, but it appears Snell is back to form.
Here are your lineups for today’s weekday matinee, which can be seen on YES, Fox Sports Sun or MLB Network for out-of-market viewers. It can also be heard on the FAN, WADO, or WDAE 620 in the Tampa area.
Thursday matinee to close out the series.
