New York Yankees vs. Tampa Bay Rays: J.A. Happ vs. Hunter Wood

New, comments

The Yankees kick off a three-game set against the Rays with J.A. Happ on the mound.

After a dispiriting one-off loss to the Mets in a makeup game last night, the Yankees will try to get back on track as they begin a series with the Rays. The three-game set continues an 11-game homestand and a stretch of 20 games in 20 days, a stretch that is set to conclude this Sunday.

J.A. Happ will make his third start with the Yankees. The veteran lefty was solid as he returned from a bout with Hand, Foot and Mouth disease, tossing six innings of three-run ball agains the Rangers, striking out nine. The Yankees could use some length out of Happ after another poor, abbreviated start from Luis Severino yesterday.

The Rays will send out Hunter Wood as their “opener”. The 25-year-old right-hander has tossed 25.1 innings this year with a 3.91 ERA, striking out 30 and walking 13. The most likely pitcher to follow Wood seems to be Yonny Chirinos, who tossed five innings in relief of Wood five days ago. Chirinos, 23, has a 3.50 ERA and 3.65 FIP in 46.1 innings on the year.

The game is set to start at 7:05 EST, and can be seen on the YES Network and streamed on Fox Sports Go. You can also catch the game on radio at WFAN 660 or WDAE 620.
