The Yankees head into today’s action with a 73-43 record. They trail Boston by 9.5 games in the AL East race, while leading Oakland by 4.5 for the top Wild Card berth. Seeking the series win in the finale against the Rangers, New York turns to CC Sabathia (6-4, 3.49 ERA). The veteran will be opposed by fellow southpaw Martin Perez (2-4, 6.15 ERA).
Pitching matchup
Sabathia notched his last victory all the way back on July 4th against Atlanta. Since then, he suffered a loss followed by four no-decisions. In his last start against the White Sox, CC allowed just one run on four hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out a season-high 12 batters, and matched his 2018 high of 103 pitches.
The 27-year-old Perez is 0-1 with four no-decisions since returning from the 60-day disabled list on July 14th. He had been sidelined for most of the season with an elbow injury. In his last start against Seattle, Perez allowed three runs on ten hits over seven innings.
