The sky is no longer falling in the Bronx, as the Yankees did their best to erase the memories of a nightmare in Boston with a four-game winning streak this week. They dropped the second game of this series against the Rangers last night, though, and they’ll be looking to start a new winning streak this afternoon.
Lance Lynn will get his second start for the Yankees. He was excellent in a relief appearance against the Orioles and a start against the White Sox, giving him 11.2 shutout innings in pinstripes. He’s allowed just seven hits with one walk against 14 strikeouts in that span. His numbers on the year (4.58 ERA, 4.34 FIP), are still uninspiring, but the Yankees bet on Lynn because he seemed to be turning a corner, and so far, it appears he has.
Drew Hutchison will oppose Lynn. You might remember the 27-year-old right-hander as a formerly promising Blue Jays farmhand, but his career hasn’t yet panned out. Hutchison has bounced from the Jays to the Pirates to the Phillies to the Rangers over the past two years. He gave up six runs over three innings in his last start, his first for Texas, and he has a 6.29 ERA on the year overall.
The game begins at 1:05 ET and can be seen on the YES Network or streamed via Fox Sports Go. You can also listen along on the radio at WFAN 660/101.9 FM and WADO 1280.
