Despite leaving Saturday’s 8-5 win walking wounded, the New York Yankees are back at it again today, looking for a series win over the Toronto Blue Jays. The Yankees won the game, but lost Aaron Hicks and Aroldis Chapman to minor leg injuries that will keep them out of today’s contest.
After a brutal loss on Friday, the Yankees bounced back on Saturday and will send Domingo German to the mound today to pick up the series win. The rookie has been inconsistent, but remains the injury-ravaged club’s fifth-best healthy option to start. He even has the second-most strikeouts among Yankee pitchers. Domingo will pitch on domingo (Sunday) for the fourth time this year. In three starts on his namesake, he’s pitched to a 0-0 record with a 7.23 ERA.
The Blue Jays will counter with rookie southpaw Ryan Borucki. A lanky left-hander, Borucki is 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA through his first two starts. He throws a low-90s fastball with a good changeup and slider, and is the Blue Jays’ eighth-best prospect. Manager John Gibbons even compared Borucki to former Jays lefty Mark Buehrle. If he continues his fast start, Borucki could be a player worth keeping an eye on.
