The Yanks begin a three game set with the Rays tonight at the lovely Tropicana Field, where the Yanks were swept in their last visit. Luis Severino gets the ball tonight after last night’s game against the Mets was postponed until August. Instead, Severino gets his first start out of the break against a Rays team that surprisingly poked their head above the .500 mark yesterday, thanks to a grand slam by Daniel Robertson.
Severino has been shaky in his last two outings but looked great in the All-Star Game, so we’ll see if the extended rest has the Yankee ace back on track. He still holds a fantastic 2.31 ERA, and has been superb in Tampa Bay throughout his career.
The Rays will counter with Hunter Wood, who will just be starting their bullpen day, so expect a lot of different arms to be thrown at the Yanks this evening. This will be Wood’s second start of the season, after tossing a scoreless frame against the Tigers back on July 11th. He has a 2.70 ERA over 13 2⁄3 innings this season.
Here are the lineups for tonight, with first pitch at 7:10. You can catch the action on YES or Fox Sports Sun, or listen on WFAN or WADO 1280.
Catching a few in Florida.
