The Yankees started the second half on the wrong foot. Domingo German surrendered four runs without making it through the fourth inning. Try as they might, the offense wasn’t able to come back from that early deficit. Don’t worry though, Sonny Gray will take the mound today to try and even out the series. Okay, he has been just as bad as German this season, but he tossed six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts against the Orioles last week. That’s something!
Gray will square off against Steven Matz. The left-hander has posted a 3.38 ERA (4.82 FIP) with 7.97 K/9, 3.47 BB/9, and 1.41 HR/9. He held the Yankees to three runs off of five hits when the two teams met up in June.
First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 ET. Rain is in the forecast, but it looks like they should have a window to get through the game first. You can follow the action on YES, WPIX, or MLB Network (out of market only), or listen to the game on WFAN, WADO, WOR, or ESPN Deportes.
