The All-Star break has come and gone, now it’s time to get back to baseball. The Yankees start the unofficial second half with a Subway Series showdown against the Mets. It begins with what appears to be a lopsided pitching matchup.
Domingo German gets the start for the Yankees. The right-hander has pitched to a 5.49 ERA with a 4.42 FIP so far in 2018. There’s no questioning his stuff, but German can’t seem to get the results. Meanwhile, Noah Syndergaard will take the mound for the Mets. Syndergaard has pitched brilliantly when healthy this season, taking a 2.97 ERA (2.63 FIP) through 69.2 innings. On paper, this should favor the Amazins’.
Tonight’s game also features the return of two start players. Gary Sanchez serves as the Yankees catcher for the first time since June 24th. The Mets also activated Yoenis Cespedes, who hasn’t played since May 13th.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM. You can watch on WPIX for the locals. Out of market readers can catch the game on the MLB Network or streaming on MLB.tv. WFAN 660/101.9 FM and WADO 1280 have the radio calls. Go Yankees!
