The Yankees just finished up a topsy-turvy series with their arch-rivals, the Red Sox. Now, they turn their attention to interleague play, as they’ll host Atlanta in a rare matchup with the Braves.
Jonathan Loaisiga will get the start to open the series. Loaisiga has but 14 innings in the majors to his name, yet he has impressed so far. He has a 1.93 ERA and a 2.25 FIP in that tiny sample, to go along with 18 strikeouts. Loaisiga has struggled with control, walking eight batters, which has inhibited his ability to go deep into games. The Yankees would love for him to pitch through six innings for the first time tonight.
The resurgent Anibal Sanchez will take the ball for the Braves. The 13-year veteran was miserable in 2017, finishing up a five-year contract with the Tigers by posting a 6.41 ERA in 105.1 innings. He has a shocking 2.68 ERA in 47 innings this year, though his 4.05 FIP is a bit higher. Regardless, Sanchez has been surprisingly effective in 2018, and provides a nice contrast to the rookie Loaisiga.
The game begins at 7:05 ET, and can be seen on the YES Network or FSSE, and can be heard on radio at WFAN or WYAY.
Best record in AL vs best record in NL. Should be good.
