With the 23rd overall pick, the Yankees selected prep catcher Anthony Seigler. The switch-hitter and switch-thrower authored a .421 batting average with 13 home runs and 16 stolen bases for Cartersville High School.
The Yankees had long been connected to high school bats in the draft, so this pick makes perfect sense. The organization is also shallow on catching depth, and Seigler would go a long way to correct that. He had been linked to New York in a recent FanGraphs’ mock draft.
In case you missed it, here’s our full write up on Seigler. Don’t forget to check out the action footage, too!
Now it’s your turn to the grade the Yankees and their first round draft pick. What do you think about the selection? Are you pleased with Seigler? Who do you wish they landed instead? Cast your vote in the poll below and then sound off in the comment section.
