The Yankees head into today’s action with a Major League-leading .690 winning percentage and hold a four-game loss-column lead over the Red Sox in the AL East race. With a 49-22 record, the Yankees are off to one of the best starts in franchise history. New York sends its ace to the hill today, seeking a sweep of the three-game series against Seattle. Luis Severino (10-2, 2.09 ERA) takes on southpaw James Paxton (6-1, 3.53 ERA).

In his last start on Saturday against the Rays, Severino struck out nine batters over eight shutout innings to earn his 10th win of the season. He threw 102 pitches, while scattering three hits and two walks. Severino was flat out brilliant. The Bombers are 13-2 this season in games started by Sevy.

James Paxton gave up six runs while lasting only 2.1 innings in his last start against the Red Sox, a game the Mariners came back to win. Overall, 10 of Paxton’s 15 outings this year have been quality starts. He has averaged 11.3 strikeouts per nine, while only permitting 10 home runs in 91.2innings. The left-hander also has a pair of complete games under his belt this season.
