The big news of the day is that Greg Bird has been activated from the disabled list. He will finally make his season debut tonight. The Yankees surprised just about everyone by announcing that to make room for Bird, Ronald Torreyes had been optioned to Triple-A. It doesn’t sound like the players are happy with the decision, but they’ll have to carry on without Torreyes for now.
Tonight the Yankees will go for the series victory with Sonny Gray set to face off against Jaime Barria. Just about every time Gray seems to have figured things out, he has an awful outing. He held the Royals to just one run over eight innings during his last start, but tossed a clunker against Oakland before that. The Angels recalled Barria from Triple-A to start today’s game. This will be his sixth major league start, and he has pitched well so far (2.13 ERA). Houston managed just one run off of four hits during his last outing.
The game starts at 7:15 ET and you can catch it on FOX, or follow along on WFAN, WADO, KLAA, or KWKW.
