Around the Empire: Yankees news - 5/26/18

Gleyber Torres hits another history HR; Greg Bird should be activated today; Tommy Kahnle reinstated from the 10-day DL yesterday; some minor league moves; CC Sabathia will not miss facing Hanley Ramirez

MLB: Los Angeles Angels at New York Yankees
You are good, Gleyber. Nay, you are great!
Adam Hunger-USA TODAY Sports | Bryan Hoch: Another night, another historic home run for the New York Yankees. Who, you might ask? Oh come on, you know who! Gleyber Torres, the one who is good. Gleyber Torres was responsible for the two game winning runs last night. The run that won the game was yet another Gleyber dinger, or Gleydong as the kids are calling it. Gleyber has now hit a homer in four consecutive games, making him the fourth youngest player in the modern era to achieve such a feat.

Honestly, we’re at a point where the hashtag should be #GleyberGreat!

Newsday | Laura Albanese: Good news, Yankee fans. Greg Bird is flying back to us. As Caitlin wrote about yesterday, Aaron Boone said that Bird is set to be activated off of the DL today. Bird’s rehab has seemingly gone better than expected, which is good. Of course, Bird’s arrival raised some roster questions for the Yankees. We should find out later today what the corresponding move is for Bird. Either way, here’s hoping for a healthy season for the Greg Bird. Ca-Caw!

New York Daily News | Daniel Popper: More good news, Yankee fans. Tommy Kahnle and his thicc thighs are back and thiccer than ever. I have no actual proof of that, but I’m confident I am right. The Yankees reinstated Kahnle from the 10-day DL before yesterday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels of...wait, they no longer have the “of Anaheim” at the end? This might be more important news than Kahnle’s return. It’s not, but I’m confident I am right.

New York Post | Dan Martin: Even more good news, Yankee fans. The Yankees made some minor league roster moves yesterday. They signed Wilkin Castillo, who was playing for the Atlantic League Long Island Ducks, and assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. They also traded catcher Eric Kratz to the Milwaukee Brewers for either Pit Banal (PTBNL) or our old friend Cash Considerations. Does this qualify as good news? Probably not.

New York Post | Dan Martin: Okay, this definitely qualifies as more good news. The Red Sox, our mortal enemy, DFA’d Hanley Ramirez yesterday. Hanley has apparently been doing poorly lately, you know, except when he faces us. Both Aaron Boone and CC Sabathia are not sad to see him out of Boston. I doubt many Yankee fans are either. Who knows where Ramirez will wind up, but let’s hope that it’s in the NL.
