Yankees at Royals: Luis Severino vs. Danny Duffy

The Yankees look to bounce back, if Mother Nature cooperates.

Between a series of rainouts, days off, and last night’s lackluster performance, it feels like the Yankees have hit a lull. What better way to snap out of it than by sending one of baseball’s best pitchers to the mound? If that can’t do it, nothing can.

Luis Severino has been nothing short of brilliant this season. He owns a 2.14 ERA with even better peripherals. Severino has a sterling 1.97 FIP and a 10.68 K/9 rate. The young right-hander labored during his last outing, but he still held Oakland to one run over six innings. He struck out seven in the process! Even when Severino is off, he’s really good.

As for the Royals, Danny Duffy is not off to a good start. He’s pitched to a 6.51 ERA over 47 innings pitched. His 6.19 FIP isn’t much better, nor is his sky-high 2.30 HR/9. If those numbers don’t convince you that Duffy has struggled, consider the fact he surrendered four runs to the lowly White Sox last month. It’s been a slog for the southpaw.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 PM. You can watch on YES locally, or MLB Network for the out-of-market readers. There’s also the radio (full listings) and FOX Sports GO app. Go Yankees!
