Newsday | Laura Albanese: Aaron Boone is probably not winning over many fans with his most recent bullpen usage. On Thursday, he used Dellin Betances for two innings and it did not go well. Actually, it didn’t go that badly. Outside of the Yankee Stadium short porch special, Dellin pitched alright. Boone certainly thought so, as he praised Betances’ command as of late. Again, none of this will probably win Boone many fans right now. To be fair, they did win 17 out of 18 games.
New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: The other thing to consider with Boone’s bullpen usage is that he is without some key pitchers. The Yankees are using Dellin Betances for two innings. They are using the likes of David Hale. This is because Tommy Kahnle and Adam Warren are still on the DL. Yeah, he still has Chad Green, Aroldis Chapman, and David Robertson. He cannot use them all the time though. With limited days off and pitchers not always going deep into games, this is what Boone has to work with.
The New York Times | Tyler Kepner: The Yankees won in many, many, many, many, many ways during their seventeen out of eighteen run. The comeback-from-behind wins have stood out. It’s been magical to watch, and maybe a bit frustrating. What’s less frustrating is that they’ve been doing it against good relievers. Beating Craig Kimbrel is not an easy task. Even in these two recent losses, the Yankees almost came back to tie or win the game. Maybe some blowout wins going forward, please?
