If you missed last night’s game, consider yourself lucky. CC Sabathia exited after the fourth inning with a sore right hip, so the Yankees had to turn to the bullpen early. Brandon Drury and Tyler Wade also left the game unexpectedly. This morning, the Yankees placed Sabathia and Drury on the disabled list with a hip strain and severe migraines, respectively. Wade has been dealing with flu-like symptoms, so he should recover in a few days.
The Yankees are down 0-2 in the series now, and turn to Sonny Gray to right the ship. After going through every single available arm in the bullpen, the Yankees will need length from Gray this afternoon. He lasted just four innings during his first outing of the season. The Yankees optioned Jonathan Holder to Triple-A and have called up Domingo German and Luis Cessa, but it’d be nice to not see much of the bullpen today. Jace Peterson has also been signed to a major league deal and called up to replace Drury for now.
Gray will square off against Chris Tillman. He had an awful 2017, somehow ending the season with a 7.84 ERA over 93 innings. He was tagged for four runs during his most recent start against the Astros. The game starts at 1:05 ET and you can catch it on YES. Hopefully it goes nothing like last night’s game.
