After a sluggish start to 2018, the Yankees seem to be forming into the squad we expected to see. They just rattled off four straight wins, scoring 36 runs in the process. Facing another fly-ball pitcher tonight, New York is hoping the bats stay hot as they continue their series with the Minnesota Twins.
Lance Lynn, one of the many free agent pickups by the Twins, has gotten off to a rocky start, with a 6.00 ERA/4.51 FIP in his first three starts with the Twinkies. He’s posted impressive strikeout numbers, but a Dellin Betances-like walk rate means he’s allowed too many baserunners to be successful. With many players so far posting career years in discipline, the Yankees would do well to stay patient against Lynn.
Sonny Gray, meanwhile, will look to rebound from a bad start to the season himself. His peripherals look better than Lynn’s, but he will need to better manage contact and command the strike zone tonight to enjoy any confidence in the eyes of Yankee blog editors.
