The Yankees just barely squeaked out a win last night to open this series. Things got dicey in the eighth inning when David Robertson worked his way into a bases-loaded jam, but he somehow escaped with the lead still intact. Even some of the Yankees’ wins haven’t felt easy. The bullpen is bound to improve, though, and team should start playing better as a whole anytime now.
A bounce-back outing by Sonny Gray tonight could go a long way towards boosting team morale. Between the rain outs and scheduled off days, he hasn’t made a start since he was lit up by the Red Sox last week. That was a particularly bad performance, but Gray did notch eight strikeouts when he faced Toronto during opening weekend. He will take the mound tonight opposite of Marco Estrada, who has been dealing with back spasms. The game starts at 7:05 ET and you can follow along on YES, SNET-1, or MLB Network (out-of-market only). You can also catch the game on WFAN, WADO, or SN590.
