Luis Cessa makes his first start of 2018 as Bombers seek series win against Tigers.

Luis Cessa makes his first start of 2018 following a pair of perfect one-inning relief outings. He last pitched on Tuesday during the eighth inning of New York’s 14 — 1 drubbing in Boston. Prior to that, Cessa closed out the Bomber’s April 7th win over the Orioles. Overall, the right-hander struck out three of the six batters he faced.

The 25-year-old Cessa has 14 career big-league starts under his belt. He is 2-7 with a 4.54 ERA and 1.20 WHIP in those outings. Cessa threw 4 1/3 innings in his most recent start during a victory over the Mets on August 14th of last season. He allowed two runs on five hits while walking one and striking out five.

Francisco Liriano takes the hill for Detroit. In two starts, he is 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA and 0.95 WHIP. The 34-year-old left-hander earned a World Series ring with the Astros in 2017 following his mid-season trade from Toronto. He threw one scoreless inning against New York in Game Five of the ALCS.

Liriano has 10 career starts versus the Yankees. He is 4-4 with a 3.34 ERA and 1.42 WHIP lifetime against them.
