New York Yankees vs. Detroit Tigers: Jordan Montgomery vs. Mike Fiers

Monty and the Yankees roll into ice-cold Detroit for the first of three.

I hope you enjoyed seeing the Yankees in balaclavas and long sleeves in Boston. After three games in near freezing temperatures, the Yankees head west and just slightly south for another series in the cold and the wet, taking on the Detroit Tigers in game one of a three game set on Friday.

Temperature at first pitch is expected to be in the low 50s - right around 12 degrees Celsius, for those of us in the SI part of the world. Sadly, this won’t last, as the wind and rain will drop that temperature down as the game progresses. Hopefully we’ll see a full nine innings before the rain gets really bad, as predicted for the rest of the weekend.

Jordan Montgomery will take the hill for the Yankees, looking for his first win in this, his third start of the season. So far in 2018 he has logged one start against the Rays that was quite good, and one against Baltimore that was not. Coming off two straight series losses, Monty has to be closer to the Rays’ opponent for the Yankees to get off to a good start this weekend.

Neil Walker is at first, and Ronald Torreyes gets the start at second. First pitch it at 7:10pm EDT, on YES and WFAN.
