MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: The Yankees have finally announced the Opening Day starter and it will be Luis Severino. Masahiro Tanaka had been the starter the past three years, but he will pitch the second game. CC Sabathia, Sonny Gray, and Jordan Montgomery will follow, in that order. Sevy is coming off of a great season and definitely earned the nod.
New York Post | Dan Martin: Didi Gregorius has heard all the chatter about Manny Machado potentially signing with the Yankees when he hits free agency. Although Didi stated that he is “of course” worried about his future, the Yankees’ current shortstop also said that he is trying to stay focused and not worry about what he can’t control. Wise words from Didi.
NY Daily News | John Harper: Speaking of Machado, would the Yankees be better off spending that money on Dallas Keuchel instead? This might make sense for a couple of reasons, including the fact that the offense is currently more of a strength than the rotation, and that the Yankees just took on Giancarlo Stanton’s contract. Hal Steinbrenner has been inclined to save his coins lately, so he might be opposed to adding another huge deal.
New York Post | George A. King III: Jacoby Ellsbury has been sidelined with an oblique injury for a few weeks now, but the Yankees don’t sound too worried about it. Aaron Boone said that even if Ellsbury starts the season on the disabled list, that doesn’t mean that the Yankees will take another outfielder to fill his spot. There aren’t any plans for Tyler Wade to play in the outfield to increase his versatility, either.
