MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Gary Sanchez has been the talk of spring training. It probably has to do with him reminding us that he can dinger it up with the biggest and beefiest of them. Oh yeah, he’s a catcher as well. Gary Sanchez and Sonny Gray are looking to work together as much as possible this spring. It seems that it’s going well thus far. Gray has nothing but praise for the young catcher. Next up, the two will be starring in the upcoming buddy cop movie, Kraken and Pickles. Look it up!
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Speaking of starting pitching, Gumby! Last spring, there was a fierce competition for the 5th starter job. Jordan Montgomery emerged the victor and boy did it pan out well for the Yankees. This spring, Aaron Boone is wasting no time naming him as the 5th starter. That was easy!
Newsday | Erik Boland: Even with the starting rotation set, there are still some questions surrounding the merry old land of pinstripes. The competition for second base and third base is still lit. Miguel Andujar could beat out Brandon Drury at 3B. Meanwhile, at 2B, Tyler Wade is raising a lot of eyebrows this spring. Wade’s defense has impressed Boone and he is one of the hottest hitters right now. Oh, and he’s fast. We’ll just have to Wade and see if he wins the job. I’m not sorry.
New York Post | George A. King III: On Thursday, the Yankees began their first round of cuts. One player headed down to the minors was Justus Sheffield. Boone had quite a bit of praise for the young starter, stating that they don’t want to rush him even though their expectations for him are very high. Mine are as well, and not just for the puns. Okay okay, it’s mostly for the puns.
