The last time CC Sabathia pitched in a game for the Yankees, the team had a chance to go to the World Series. With an eye towards a championship in 2018, today begins the journey for the veteran southpaw. With a pitcher like Sabathia, today’s outing means shaking off the rust. The results will follow.
The Yankees didn’t bring their top squad to Clearwater today, but there are some interesting names in the lineup. In fact, almost everyone competing for the third base job will play. That includes Miguel Andujar, Brandon Drury, Danny Espinosa, and Jace Peterson.
Also of note, Jacoby Ellsbury gets the start in center this afternoon, with Aaron Hicks patrolling left field. A road trip without the top stars doesn’t exactly make for an exciting spring training game. That said, this one could shed some light on a number of competitions. It might be fun to follow these story lines.
