Moves the Yanks should have made

In response to the readers turn to write type of request, I submit two moves I wish the Yankees made in the past 20 years, both in the playoffs.

Game 7, 2001

With Rivera on the mound, play the infield at double play depth when Gonzalez comes to the plate. The game had already been tied on an unearned run, so in a perfect world the ball Gonzalez wound up hitting lands in Jeter's glove and a DP is turned, bringing the game into extras. Who knows whether that leads to a NYY win as Spencer/Soriano/Brosius would have been due up, and Arizona would have countered with the top of its lineup, but to at least get the chance to have Mo rebound would have been nice.

The 2004 collapse

In Games 3 & 4, you could argue Torre's use of Quantrill and Gordon affected the later part of the series. That said, I'll put more blame on Torre for Game 6 and the bloody sock on Schilling. BUNT. ALL. GAME. Make him field his position.

There are more, I'm sure, but none too much more recent than those that I can legitimately point to and say, "if only..."
