Newsday | Erik Boland: In our continuing coverage of “Seriously, what the hell is Florida Baseball even doing this year” the Yankees acquired Brandon Drury in a 3-team trade involving the Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks. The D’Backs acquire Steven Souza Jr. and Taylor Widener, the Yankees get Drury, and the Rays get Nick Solak, Anthony Banda, two PTBNL, and a ton of confused looks at their organization. Brian Cashman has presumably found the infielder he was looking for. The last time he traded for an infielder from the D’Backs, it went well. Here’s hoping this works out.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Speaking of Sir Didi Gregorius, he recently spoke about the possibility of Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar joining him in the infield. Sir Didi gave the two rookies the simple advice to just play the way they did in the minors. With the addition of Drury, the competition for second and third base just got even hotter. Of course, Drury could just be replacing Ronald Torreyes as a backup. We’ll see. Honestly, these are not bad problems to have.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Continuing with our infield discussion, there’s no question who will be the starting first baseman for the Yankees. One of the more exciting things coming into this season will be seeing what a healthy Greg Bird is capable of. We got a glimpse in the 2017 postseason. Both Aaron Boone and Brian Cashman are already giving him praise. Cashman has always believed in what Bird can do. Now Boone has heard. They’ve all heard.
New York Post | George A King III: MLB is implementing new pace of play rules to speed up the game. One such way is to limit visits to the mound for both coaches and players. Gary Sanchez and Austin Romine talked about the rule change, saying they just need to make adjustments going forward. We’ll see if this changes anything in the regular season. One day they’ll just go full Blernsball.
New York Daily News | Mike Mazzeo: As you know, the Red Sox finally signed JD Martinez to a five-year deal on Monday. The Yankees obviously took note of their rivals’ latest move and mocked their foolish efforts. Okay, they just talked about it a bit. They save the Red Sock mockery to the professionals. Us!
