The Yankees spent the day wooing Patrick Corbin

The Yankees entered the offseason with a lot of work to do on their starting rotation. They’ve already brought CC Sabathia back on a one-year deal, and traded for James Paxton. That leaves them with one rotation slot to fill, since Brian Cashman has been quite vocal about wanting to get rid of Sonny Gray. Free agent southpaw Patrick Corbin just might be their guy.

After meeting with both the Phillies and Nationals earlier in the week, Corbin stopped by the Bronx for a visit at Yankee Stadium today. The lefty has been on the Yankees’ radar for awhile now, as Arizona and New York discussed putting a trade together last offseason. That obviously didn’t happen, but Corbin gushed about the idea of joining the Bombers when he was asked about it back in April. Not only did he grow up a Yankees fan, but his whole family roots for them too.

Following the Phillies’ lead, the Yankees decided to welcome Corbin to the stadium by giving him an idea of what he’d look like in pinstripes:

It may not be that easy for the Bombers to work out a deal, though, now that the Phillies have tossed their hat into the ring. Their owner intends to spend big money this winter, and indicated that they may “even be a little stupid about it.” They could end up with both Manny Machado and Bryce Harper, and even steal Corbin from the Yankees.

Remember when Brian McCann toured Yankee Stadium? He signed a contract shortly thereafter and even said, “Once I came up and visited it was a no-brainer for me.” It sure would be fun to hear the same from Corbin! Get it done, Cash.
