Yankee Dream Trade- Hook, Line and Sinker

I missed the deadline to be considered for a front page appearance on Pinstripe Alley...but my dreams will not be deterred!

The absolute best thing that could have happened to the 2018 Yankees and their die-hard, albeit at times unrealistic fans, was their embarrassing elimination from the 2018 playoffs courtesy of their most hated rivals- The bearded barbarians from Beantown- The Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox did not just merely eliminate the Yankees, they the ousted them at Yankee Stadium and then had the nerve to go all the way and win it all, twisting the knife a little further while trolling the Yankees in a classless display of poor sportsmanship complete with unnecessary, if not expected, gloat.

How is this the nest thing that could have happened to the Yankees and their fans?

They did not just lose, they lost to Boston. They did not just sit home and watch the World Series from their vacation spots...they were sent there by Boston. Now, the Yankees will move heaven and earth this offseason to prevent that from happening in 2019- and that means this offseason, big splashes, plural, are in store.

Will these pending splashes be the stuff dreams are made of?

Not likely- but dreams are free and I will share mine shortly.

Reality first, dreams later.

The Yankees will likely focus on pitching and at least one big bat for sure, not that they need one, but this is the Yankees and sometimes it's about optics and not necessarily necessity.

The deals they make will be realistic deals that many have already been predicted or at least ones many see happening.

They are expected to sign Manny Machado and adding Patrick Corbin seems like a reasonable bet as well. Dallas Keuchel is also out there and available costing them nothing but cash...but those guys are free agents and that is not what this article is about.

It's about Dreams baby, yeah.

The Yankees will make a trade or two in the coming weeks and months and they have the necessary chips to package together to land some quality help for next season. These are practical trades that people can see happening and not necessarily the stuff dreams are made of.

The Yankees will ponder the creation of varied packages from the likes of Sonny Gray, Jordan Montgomery, Ronald Torreyes, Greg Bird (yes, he is no longer untouchable) Chance Adams, Clint Frazier, Albert Abreu, Jonathan Loaisiga, Trevor Stephan, The Domingo's- Acevedo and German, Thairo Estrada and a host of other low level chips that they would pile on if necessary to get some help.

I am pretty confident that Justus Sheffield and Esteven Florial will be off the table for anyone they are reasonably expected to pursue and I seriously doubt the Yankees will put Gleyber Torres and or Miguel Andujar in any package despite all the armchair General Managers out there that say it is an absolute must in order for them to land an "Ace" or a bat of any kind.

That's just simply not true- but, then again, nothing is in stone and no one is safe when Boston is the reason you got sent home.

Who could they target with varied packages of those I just listed as available to entice? Corey Kluber, Carlos Carrasco, Madison Bumgarner, Michael Fulmer, James Paxton are a few names- some of which I would avoid - that quickly come to mind.

Any, or all, of those options, seem likely and none of them are the stuff dreams are made of, which was the point of this article.

A dream trade is a wish our heart makes that is more than likely not reasonable and even more than likely not even on the radar of those in power to make them happen. That is not to say we cannot dream, nor is it to say it will never happen but we still love to speculate about it, cross our fingers and promise to whatever Gods we believe in that we will be good forever and a day if our dream trade could come to fruition

So, what dream trade does this Die-Hard Yankee fan wish for?

Well- grab your pole and tackle box and follow me...its time to go fishing!

I can see the headlines now!

BLOCKBUSTER! Yankees snag a Trout hook, line, and sinker by sending 7 for L.A slugger.

(Keep in mind that I am DEEP in REM sleep...and in my dream I am watching ESPN..and somehow got mustard on my Jeter Jersey but I do not care- not today- not in this dream...)

The New York Yankees made the biggest splash in trade history today by sending SP Sonny Gray, SP Domingo German, SP Jonathan Loaisiga CF Aaron Hicks, NO. 2 Prospect Albert Abreu, RP Chance Adams and SS Thairo Estrada to the Angels for CF Mike Trout.

The Angels, quietly rebuilding, get three starting pitchers that have proven they can pitch at the MLB level and yes Gray has proven it, just not in New York. Aaron Hicks who is a quality bat and good defender and can replace Trout in Center- as far as a name on the lineup card goes- and all the potential in the world yet untapped in Abreu, Adams and Estrada.

The Yankees get the best player in the game, a natural centerfielder to play between Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. Trout makes more of an impact than Machado, has more value than Bryce Harper, joins Judge in replacing Jeter in the image and face of the franchise category and, oh, by the way- he brings a .368 average with 7 home runs at Yankee stadium with him.

The Yankees just announced they are sold out for the season.

(Suddenly the trade announcement is interrupted by breaking news)

This just in...Thousands of angry Angels fans have descended upon Angels Stadium with torches and pitchforks and we are hearing reports that the stadium is, in fact, on fire.

Suddenly upon waking, I have an overwhelming craving for toasted marshmallows.
