Rumors are running ramped, on a trade for James Paxton. Jerry Dipoto has stated the Mariners need to "re-imagine" his team's roster. So what do the Mariners need? Can we match up in a trade???????

Seattle Mariners needs:

  1. This team starting the off season needing help in the outfield. Specially in centerfield. Adding Mallex help this out.
  2. They needed help in their rotation. James Paxton has emerge as their rotation leader. Yet, he was limited to around 160 innings, because of injuries. It was a very poor rotation after James!
  3. Then the trade of Mike Zunino for Mallex Smith help the outfield situation and added speed to the lineup. That also opened up a hole behind the plate.
  4. They need to settle the Cano and Gordon 2B issue or did they? Manny believe that Cano should become the DH and back up at 2B and 1B. If so then a need has been created at first.
  5. Possible need at first depending on Cano decision!

How do the Yankees match up?

  1. Looking at our 40 roster we have some needed pieces that would or could improve the Mariners rotation. We have an abundance of possibilities to make it into their rotation for 2019. Chance Adams, Luis Cesa, Domingo German and Jonathan Loaisia. We also are trying to trade Sonny Gray who has a solid history of pitching quite well in the AL west, while with Oakland. Sonny thrives in larger stadiums and smaller attendance venues.
  2. Next, we have a very solid back-up catcher in Austin Romine. His bat has came alive an has shown he is an outstanding defensive catcher. Kyle Higashioka has shown he is a capable backup catching option for the Yankees, if needed!
  3. We have at least a possible platoon situation at first base. Luke Voit has the edge as of now on Greg Bird at first base but either could be moved.
  4. Jacoby Ellsbury is from that area. He could add valuable depth to their outfield and experience. The key here would be, how much money would the Yankees add to lower his overall salary. The other factor is will Jacoby wave his no trade clause.

Potential trade options:

  1. My first proposal is to trade Romine, Gray, Loaisia for Paxton. Seattle gets a needed starting catching option and fills two rotation spots.
  2. Second potential trade is Voit, Gray and Adams for James. Mariners add two pieces to their rotation and a first basemen to at least platoon with Cano at first.
  3. Yankees trade Adams, Loaisia, Ellsbury and 25 million for Paxton. This allows two options for the rotation and adds much need experience and outfield depth.
  4. Gray, German, Voit, Romine, Ellsbury and 20 million for Paxton and Colome. This trade is very interesting because it fills a lot of holes on the Mariners. They get needed outfield help, two potential starter, first base help and catching help. This would not add two much actual dollars to the current payroll on the Seattle team. In fact because of the additional 20 million they would be adding only around 2.5 million above their current salary, if they apply only 10 million towards this years payroll! They do loose their a set-up man in the bullpen.
  5. Combination of deals could happen as well. All pieces are interchangeable. Plus a very interesting minor farm system. I am sure the Yankees will not include Justus Sheffield or Estevan Florial in any trades this off season. They would truly be for an ACE and Paxton to me is not their because of his injury history.

Summary:

We do have pieces that should interest the Seattle Mariners, for James Paxton. Cashman is a trying hard to get James but he has competition for his services. It is rumored that Red Sox, Braves and Astros are the top rivals so far. One has to believe that the Padres will also be in these trade discussions. The Padres have tried for a couple seasons to get a leader for their young pitching staff and maybe Paxton is their choice. They have an incredible farm system that could come into play. It is in the capable hands of Brian Cashman!

Go get James Paxton, Stealth Ninja! The eagle has landed, Brian!
