In a way, it always had to come down to this. The Yankees and the Red Sox, two of the preeminent teams in the American League, clubs with a storied rivalry, appeared destined for a great clash this season. While a big Red Sox lead in the division zapped the drama from the second half, there always lurked the possibility of a postseason showdown, the teams’ first playoff meeting in 14 years. As Jake explained this morning, that time has arrived.
Later on tonight, a pair of southpaws will duke it out at Fenway Park. For the Red Sox, Chris Sale will take the mound, clouded by speculation over his arm’s health. Meanwhile, the Yankees turn to J.A. Happ, a trade deadline acquisition who pitched to an ace-like level down the stretch.
Pinstripe Alley will have around the clock coverage of today’s game, with plenty of great previews. In the meantime, here’s how you can watch the first of what should be many epic bouts in this ALDS.
