Aaron Boone announced in a press conference Tuesday that Luis Severino has been tabbed to start the AL Wild Card Game versus the Athletics tonight at Yankee Stadium. Boone also provided a preview of the remaining roster.
The Yankees are set to carry ten total pitchers. Severino will be backed up by Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances, Zach Britton, Chad Green, Jonathan Holder, and David Robertson. Starters J.A. Happ, Lance Lynn, and Masahiro Tanaka join the relief corps for the winner-take-all contest.
New York is going with three catchers. Gary Sanchez, Austin Romine and Kyle Higashioka are all active. They will be joined by infielders Miguel Andujar, Didi Gregorius, Adeiny Hechavarria, Gleyber Torres, Tyler Wade, Neil Walker and Luke Voit. Outfielders Brett Gardner, Aaron Hicks, Aaron Judge, Andrew McCutchen, and Giancarlo Stanton complete the roster.

Boone said carrying three catchers gives him maximum flexibility when it comes to pinch-running situations, with Wade on the roster for that purpose. The Yankees skipper expressed hope that Sevy would pitch deep into the game, but added that he intends to be very aggressive in making moves to try to set up the best matchups.
The Athletics plan to use Liam Hendriks as their opener. The Yankees dealt with this often during the season when they played Tampa Bay, experiencing mixed results. Hendriks is 0-1 on the year, and will be just the fourth winless pitcher ever to start a postseason game.
Note that the Yankees roster does not have to be officially submitted until later, so it could still change. We’ll have updates as they come in!
UPDATE (10:25 AM) The Yankees have made it official, announcing their 25-man roster for the Wild Card Game.
