The day has finally arrived. Later tonight, the Yankees will play the Oakland Athletics in a decisive American League Wild Card Game. The winner advances to the ALDS, the loser begins the offseason. The stakes couldn’t get any higher.
For the second consecutive year, Luis Severino gets the ball in the Wild Card Game. The Yankees ace has struggled in the second half, but he appears to have rounded into form of late. The team is betting on talent, and no other pitcher on the staff has the tools to dominate like Severino. As for the A’s, they will run a bullpen game, with Liam Hendriks getting the ball in the first inning.
Should the Yankees escape with a win, they will travel to Boston for the Division Series. The Red Sox secured home-field advantage by winning 108 games. Let’s hope that Fenway Park is the Bombers’ next destination.
