Who to root for now that the Yankees are out of the playoffs..

Growing up in Brooklyn in hostile terroritory, I was a one of the few Yankee fans there because my father, a Manhattan resident in his early years, preferred the Yankees and took me to the Stadium to watch them play. Since the Yanks and the Dodgers were such adversaries in the postseason, the fans of "Da Bums" hated the Yankees, and I reciprocated that animus by rooting against the Dodgers. In a similar way, of all the fans in the American League, I felt those who had the most animosity against the Yankees rooted for the Red Sox; it may have been that they blamed New York for the Curse of the Bambino that led to the Yankee dynasty and their mediocrity for all those years, but that dislike for the Pinstripes, like the Brooklyn Dodger fans, had me in the other corner wanting their opponents to win especially in the postseason where the Red Sox finally have become a force in the 21st century.

I am rooting for Houston all the way, and if the Red Sox survive and get to the final round against the L.A. Dodgers, I will bury the hatchet against the Dodger name and root for the West Coast team. I have made my peace with most of my friends who were once Brooklyn Dodger fans, now Met fans, who have never forgiven their old team for abandoning them for Chavez Ravine and are more favorable towards the Yanks. Since the only real rhetoric against New York baseball teams, including Bill Buckner's error, comes from Bean Town, I am rooting against and not for now that the Yankees are out of the playoffs.
