Building a Competitor for 2019-3 Old, 3 New, 3 Trades

This is how i'd handle the off-season, including one mega trade that nobody has seemed to mention. 3 re-signings, 3 FA signings, 3 trades.

3 Old

1) J.A. Happ-Bring back Happ on a short-term deal to be our #5 starter

2) Neil Walker-Bring back Neil to be our utility guy

3) CC-Bring CC back too. Some won't agree with this, but I see Britton walking and while CC won't be the dominant presence that Britton will be, I can see him being a lefty out of the bullpen who can give us innings when a starter implodes or when we need a spot start. That of course is contingent on CC accepting a role like this.

3 New

1) Patrick Corbin-The obvious one. He'll be our #3 starter.

2) Manny Machado-The big one. Manny will start at SS next year.

3) Adam Ottavino-Like Corbin, Adam grew up a yankees fan from NY. He's a solid and cheaper replacement to D-Rob.

3 Trades

1) The Small one: Sonny Gray to whoever for prospects. Self explanatory.

2) The medium size one: Chance Adams, Tyler Wade, and Ryan McBroom to the Diamondback for David Peralta.

Why the D-Backs do this: If the D-Backs go full rebuild (never go full rebuild), they'll want some young talent and Peralta should be on the move as a 31 year old outfielder. Chance gives them a young arm, Wade gives them infield depth, and McBroom could see extensive time at 1B if they move on from Goldschmidt.

Why the Yanks do this: All three prospects are blocked/expendable. Peralta plugs in nicely in LF and provides very similar production to Didi at the left side of the plate (slightly better than Didi for his career). He has two years of arbitration left.

3) The BIG one: Miguel Andujar, Justus Sheffield, Domingo German, and Josh Breaux for Carlos Martinez and Jedd Gyorko.

Why the Cards do this: Carlos has been rumored to be on the trade block for a while now. With the emergence of Mikolas, Flaherty, and Gant, he could be expendable. Given his contract, it'll take a haul to get him. Andujar replaces Gyorko at third short term. Long term, he'll replace Carpenter at first while one of the Cards top third base prospects takes over at third. Sheff and German give them two potential 4/5 guys with upside. Breaux is a long-term play as a potential replacement down the road to Molina.

Why the Yanks do this: We need a top end of the rotation guy. Carlos has 3 years left on his deal with club options for years 4 and 5. He's a dominant guy who could slot perfectly behind Sevy. Gyorko is a short-term solution at third. He has a club option for 2019. This can allow the Yanks to not exercise the option, bring back Didi next year, and move Machado to third.
