With the D-Backs selling, five names came to mind per reporters: Goldschmidt, Zach Greinke, Robbie Ray, David Peralta, and Nick Ahmed. The first four make a ton of sense for the Yankees:
-Goldschmidt: That much more offense and a legitimate first baseman.
-Greinke: Still a front end rotation pitcher. Three years left on his deal. Questions arise of NY anxiety, although he fared well in LA. Would he waive his NTC for NY?
-Robbie Ray: Ray would slide in extremely well towards the back end of the rotation. He's still young and can flash signs of dominance at times. 2 years of team control left.
-David Peralta: Peralta had a big year in Zona and it's hard to say if he can repeat it, but he's a left fielder, he's a lefty bat, and he's also under team control for 2 years. More importantly, he's a career .293 hitter.
So let's get to the trade. This is contingent on Machado signing here because a trade of this magnitude will require a guy like Miggy. So here it is:
Yankees get: Goldschmidt, Greinke, Ray, and Peralta
D-Backs get: Andujar, Frazier, Sheffield, Gray, Bird, and Ellsbury
Why do the D-Backs do this trade?
If the D-Backs are going full rebuild, they get a ton of value here.
-Andujar slides in as their starting third baseman for starters. Eduardo Escobar slides back to short and the rumors have it that Nick Ahmed is likely on the way out.
-Frazier is the perfect replacement for Peralta. He's 7 years younger and has a ton of upside.
-Sheffield is a great young starter to get into the rotation.
-Gray gets a fresh start and also slides right into the rotation.
-Bird starts at first and hopefully turns it around. If he does, the D-Backs have a young starting first baseman.
-Ells has to be thrown in there. I can't see Cash taking back Greinke otherwise.
The Yanks can then add Corbin, basically be the Arizona Yankees, but have one of the best rotations in baseball in:
Sevy
Greinke
Corbin
Tanaka
Ray
Lineup wise, if they add Machado, you're likely at something along the lines of:
Hicks
Judge
Machado
Stanton
Goldschmidt
Didi
Sanchez
Peralta
Torres
That's simply FILTHY. Figure out your bullpen and you could be looking at some rings.
I know it's crazy, but man is it fun to dream.
