Around the Empire: Yankees news - 1/20/18

Brian Cashman honored at Boston BBWAA celebration; Yankees still a possibility for acquiring Bryce Harper; Yankees are eyeing Cuban CF prospect Julio Pablo Martinez

Giancarlo Stanton Introduced as New York Yankee
Hahahahaha what am I even doing here?

MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Brian Cashman was a pilgrim in an unholy land on Thursday evening. The Yankees’ GM was in Boston to attend their chapter of the BBWAA and accept his award as the Executive of the Year. That may possibly be an understatement for what Cashman has done, but I don’t like to brag. Cashman had praise for Boston and stated that the rivalry is “alive and well.” Hurry home, Cashman. You’ve still got some moves to make.

FanRag | Jon Heyman: Let’s see. We’re out of Gerrit Cole rumors. We’re still waiting for some Yu Darvish news. What to talk about? Oh wait, I know! Bryce Harper. We’ve still got a season to go before Harper hits free agency. If he does, I mean. There’s a chance the Nationals could make sure he’s signed before he even hits the market. If he does, Heyman lists some other places he could wind up. The Cubs are one, the Dodgers are another, and the Yankees are there as well. No mention of a mystery team either, but we’ll just assume there is one. Oh wait, the Phillies are the mystery team. Well that’s no fun.

Baseball America | Ben Badler: The Yankees have a gaggle of outfielders and outfield prospects. That’s no reason not to add another, right? Right! They currently have their sights set on Julio Pablo Martinez, a CF prospect from Cuba. Martinez is 21-years old and many scouts say that he would be a first-round draft pick. The Texas Rangers and Miami Marlins are also looking at him. Both the Yankees and Marlins have held private workouts for him already. Keep an eye on this one.
