Around the Empire
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: “It’s a Holliday Weekend” was uttered by the Michael Kay as Matt Holliday’s towering shot sailed over the left field wall. It was a clever pun and a welcome site to see from Holliday, who just came off the DL. Holliday was excited to be back and help contribute to the Yankees victory. If that’s what he’s going to bring to the table in September, it is certainly good to see this Matt Holliday again. Please, just be careful what you eat going forward.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Since equivalent exchange seem to be the universal law of both alchemy and the 2017 Yankees, it makes sense that with Matt Holliday coming off the DL, someone would have to go on it. That someone might be Aaron Hicks, who left yesterday’s game with a tight left oblique. LTL will be sure to tell you how the prognosis looks for that. Stay tuned for more info on this.
Newsday | Steven Marcus: Chase Headley is having a pretty good season. No really, he is. Don’t walk away from me! Seriously, outside of the month May, Headley has put together a pretty solid year of offense. Once the Yankees acquired Todd Frazier, Headley moved to first base and has been pretty solid there as well. Even with Greg Bird returning to the nest, Headley is still managing to contribute with his bat because that’s Headley! Okay, NOW you can walk away from me.
New York Daily News | John Harper: Did you know that Masahiro Tanaka doing well puts extra pressure on Luis Severino to pitch ever betterer to prove he’s the ace of the Yankees? Me neither. Silly headlines aside, with Tanaka regaining his Tanakaness, the final month of the season could bring with it the question that the end of the 2015 brought upon the Yankees: who would start the Wild Card game? Personally, I’d rather the Yankees take the AL East and not worry about that. Beating the Red Sox today would certainly help with that endeavor.
MLB.com | Bryan Hoch: Finally, Starlin Castro lost a tooth on Friday and he had to have an emergency root canal early Saturday morning. You probably knew this already. I just wanted to mention it again to bring to light how awful root canals are. There are at least 75,069 things I would rather do than get a root canal.
