The Yankees’ biggest baseball boy made history Monday afternoon with two home runs against the Kansas City Royals that gave him 50 home runs for the year. That mark is the most ever by a rookie, passing Mark McGwire’s 49-homer mark for the new record.
Judge has hit four home runs in the last 24 hours.
After winning the Home Run Derby back in July, Judge fell off a bit for about six weeks. This coincided, probably not coincidently, with cameras catching Judge icing his shoulder after every game. The ice is gone and the homers are back with a vengeance.
Judge is the overwhelming favorite for the American League Rookie of the Year award, and may have put himself back in the AL MVP race with an absolutely outstanding September. Either way, we are witnessing one of the best rookie seasons of all time.
All Rise. Fifty times.
