Thanks to wins in the first two games of this series, the Yankees have opened up a pretty decent lead over the Twins for the first wild card. While nothing is close to clinched yet, those two wins have gone a long way to helping the Yankees play at home in the wild card game at the very least. Plus if the Red Sox ever actually lose an extra innings game, it's helped the Yankees stay in contention in the East.
Today, the Yankees give the ball to Luis Severino in the series finale. Severino is coming off a good outing against the Orioles, where he allowed two runs in eight innings. It's a matchup that, at least on paper, looks good for the Yankees as the Twins will start Bartolo Colon. Since coming to the Twins, Colon has been better than he was in his stint in Atlanta earlier in the season. That being said, he hasn't been lights out or anything, just decent.
